My Grandfather"William"'s  father was possibly named Joseph Patrick Costello or Patrick Joseph but appears he went by Patrick and was buried under that name with his wife was Ann (Daly)

I found this info (Ann. w. of Patrick; d. Jan 14, 1899; a. 51
 y. Costello, Patrick. b. Mar. 17, 1837; d. Feb. 28,1907. posted about the headstone below.....So...do we go by the death certificate or the headstone? Patrick's death certificate clearly has him born in 1831 and 75 years old when he died....Williams Brother James signed the death cert and unfortunately did not know his grandparents names or where they came from in Ireland.

I was told by my Dad that my Grandfather's was given his middle name of Joseph because that was his his Father's name and that is why I was given the middle name of Joseph

Another interesting clue that may prove "Patrick"'s first name was really Joseph is that on Ann's death cert the signature is J Costello not P...I would think that it would be Ann's husband providing the information for her death certificate not one of her children... unfortunately all just speculation at this juncture.

Comments

  1. My maternal grand father was "Daniel Gerard Costello" born 1909 in Grattan Twp. Kent Co. MI His birth certificate says his father was "James J. Costello". His mother was "Mary (Doyle) Costello. I recall him mentioning that his family was buried in Parnell, MI. Perhaps this head stone is of my maternal Great Grand Father. I was born and grew up in Ionia. My grandfather is buired in Mt. Olivet Cemetary. My grandmother was Dorothy (Leak) Costello and was born in Lake Oddessa, MI. She is also buried in Mt. Olivet
